Bushfire Hazard Assessment & Management Plan

Gaia Environmental Consulting is the preferred specialist for Santoshi Development Consultants when it comes to provision of bushfire planning advice. This project involved the planning and development of a low impact industrial complex adjacent to an Environmental Management and Conservation Zone. The site was heavily vegetated necessitating bushfire risk assessment and mitigation. Gaia was able to provide the necessary bushfire hazard assessment (in accordance with Queensland State Planning Policy (SPP)) and management plan, necessary to satisfy the development codes of Logan City Council (LCC).


Bushfire Hazard Assessment

Gaia Environmental Consulting was engaged to prepare a Bushfire Hazard Assessment for a proposed mixed use development at Berrinba within the local government area of Logan City Council (LCC). The development proposed a master planned mixed use centre, including retail outlets, petrol station, fast food, supermarket, showroom and hotel. The subject site contained no hazardous vegetation, however, part of the site was affected by adjacent areas of hazardous vegetation necessitating a hazard assessment and mitigation measures for some buildings proposed on the site No Bushfire Management Plan (BMP) was necessary, although Gaia was required to undertake Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) assessments to be compliant with AS3959/09 Construction of buildings in a bushfire area and provide recommendations for construction.


Bushfire Management Plan

Rural residential development, Dayboro | THG Resource Strategists.

THG Resource Strategists required a Bushfire Management Plan for the development of a rural residential community at Dayboro. The site had been largely maintained as a cleared open area, but remnant vegetation persists over 30% of the site. A desktop analysis and field assessment were undertaken to identify potential bushfire hazard areas and details of vegetation classification and structure contributing to fuel loads. Recommendations were made to assist the client come up with the optimum plan to retain valuable vegetation, comply with bushfire planning requirements and maximise the yield for the site.
