Prescribed tidal works permit
High pressure gas main repair and realignment, Albert River | APA Group.
The APA Group contacted Gaia Environmental with an urgent request for an application for tidal works necessary to permit works to conduct repairs and realignment of a gas main at Bannockburn. The gas pipeline was situated under the Albert River and had been damaged by construction of a pedestrian footbridge over the river and carpark. Completion of the permit application required a site description, detailed description of the construction process and any potential impacts to ecological values. Gaia Environmental was able to provide a quick turn-around for the permit.
Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)
Sub-station expansion, Tully | Powerlink.
Gaia Environmental Consulting joined Flinders Group in the preparation of an EIS for the planned expansion of a sub-station in Tully north Queensland. The subject site is situated within close proximity to the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area and known habitat for the iconic southern cassowary. Gaia undertook bio-condition assessments in sensitive regrowth rainforest and wetland communities. Fauna assessments (including spotlighting, bat detection and habitat assessment) were conducted to gauge habitat suitability for cassowary, mahogany glider and bare-rumped sheath-tail bat. Gaia completed the flora and fauna chapters of the EIS including management and offset requirements. The high standard of information provided helped to guide the design and management of the site.
Flora & Fauna Assessments
Central & Western Queensland | Arrow Energy and Origin Energy.
Gaia Environmental Consulting has conducted numerous field surveys and assessments for key players in the coal seam gas industry. These surveys have been for the installation of dams, pipelines, haul roads, RO plants and well sites. The surveys are followed by a report detailing ecological values of the site, legislative requirements and management of terrestrial ecology issues.
Threatened Species and Weed Management Plan
Central & Western Queensland | Arrow Energy
Arrow Energy was planning construction of several pipelines for the transportation of gas to storage and transport facilities in Queensland. Gaia Environmental Consulting worked with EcoSure to deliver numerous management plans for threatened flora and weeds that occurred along the right-of-way (ROW) for the pipelines. The focus of the Threatened Species Management Plans was the conservation of significant flora species through avoidance, mitigation, translocation, revegetation and offsets. Weed Management Plans aim to remove or control declared weeds before they become problematic in the project areas.
